How to install OSX 10.7 Lion in vmware

Step 1: Create a blank disk image.
Using Disk Utility, create and mount a new image with the following settings,
  • Name: MyInstaller
  • Size: 5 GB
  • Format: Mac OS X Extended
  • Encryption: none
  • Partitions: Single partition - Apple Partition Map
  • Image Format: DVD/CD master
You can name it whatever you want, but be sure to modify the steps below accordingly.


Step 2: Mount the Lion installer image.
The image I obtained mounts as 'Mac OS X Install ESD'. If yours mounts as something different, then you will need to make any necessary changes to reflect that in the following steps.


Step 3: Mount the Base System image.
The Lion installer image contains a bunch of hidden files, to get to them you'll need to run the Terminal application. One of these hidden files is BaseSystem.dmg which is used to boot the system.

$ cd "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install ESD"
$ open BaseSystem.dmg

The volume will mount as 'Mac OS X Base System'


Step 4: Copy the base system.
The entire contents of the base system needs to be copied to your installer image. The 'Restore' feature in Disk Utility works great for this. Once that is finished, you can eject the BaseSystem image, it is no longer needed.

Please note, if you chose to "Erase destination", your installer image will now have the same name as the source, 'Mac OS X Base System'. I rename mine back to 'MyInstaller'.


Step 5: Setup the 'kernelcache' file.
First the file needs to be copied from the Lion installer image to your installer image, then the boot configuration file updated to specify the location of the file.

$ cp "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install ESD/kernelcache" /Volumes/MyInstaller/kernelcache

$ cd /Volumes/MyInstaller/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
$ sudo vi com.apple.Boot.plist

Make sure the boot file contains at least the following key/value to specify the location of the kernelcache file,

Step 6: Copy the installation Packages.
Before the packages can be copied from the Lion installer image, there's a file on your installer image that needs to be deleted.

$ sudo rm /Volumes/MyInstaller/System/Installation/Packages

$ sudo cp -R "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install ESD/Packages" /Volumes/MyInstaller/System/Installation/Packages
The copy (cp) command will take a few minutes; it's copying a few gigabytes of data, so be patient.


Step 7: Flag the system as a server installation.
Again, in order to boot an OS X volume in VMware, it needs to be a server. The system checks for the existence of a file in a specific location; you can imitate a server installation simply by creating that file.

$ cd /Volumes/MyInstaller/System/Library/CoreServices
$ sudo touch ServerVersion.plist

That's it for the installation disk. Both installer images can be ejected.




Step 8: Create a virtual machine. This shouldn't be anything new to you, but I'll go through each step anyway.
  1. Open VMware Fusion and select "New..." from the File menu.
  2. Click the "Continue without disc" button.
  3. Select "Create a custom virtual machine" and then Continue.
  4. Select 'Operating System: Apple Mac OS X' and 'Version: Mac OS X Server 10.6 64-bit', then click Continue.
  5. Click the "Customize Settings" button, then name and save the new virtual machine.
  6. Choose "CDs & DVDs" from Settings, then click "Use disc image" and select your installer image.
  7. Choose "Hard disks" from Settings, deselect "Split into 2 GB files" for the pre-created hard drive and click "Apply". *
Feel free to make any other changes to the settings with one caveat, you must use a SCSI hard disk; IDE drives are not recognized by the installer after it boots. Also, if the hard disk is going to be used as a boot disk, it cannot be split into separate 2 GB files, so make sure to deselect that option when the HD is created.


Step 9: Replace the VMs NVRAM.

The default NVRAM will boot up previous OS X systems, but it will not boot up a Lion volume. I have a VM that I initially used as a Snow Leopard system. Booting into that system seems to have set the NVRAM so that it will know how to boot a Lion volume. Here is the NVRAM file from that VM. You can download it and use it in your VM.


Download file "nvram.zip"
  1. Download and uncompress the nvram file.
  2. Locate your VM within the Finder, right click and select "Show Package Contents".
  3. Delete the current nvram file if one exists.
  4. Copy the downloaded nvram file into the folder and rename it to match the name of your VM; mine is named, "Mac OS X 10.7", so the nvram file would be renamed to "Mac OS X 10.7.nvram"
Now you should be able to run the VM and it will boot up to being the installation process.

Step 10: Installing Lion.
After the installation disk boots up, the first thing you should do is run Disk Utility and format the hard drive. All the norms apply; GUID partition map, Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) format, etc. When done, Quit to return to the installer.

Continue with the installation.

When the installation is complete, it will attempt to reboot the VM using the freshly installed OS on the hard disk. It won't boot, because it's not a server installation.

Step 11: Forcing the VM to boot from the CD.
VMware will not let you change the startup disk in the VMs settings, so you'll have to force a change while the VM is running.

Start the VM. As soon as you see the vmware splash screen, hit the escape key. This will bring you to a boot menu, select "Boot Manager"

This will then bring you to another menu where you choose which device to boot from. With "Mac OS X" selected, you can look at the 'Device Path' info on the right side of the screen to see the path to the default OS X boot device (this should be the hard disk). You can then move through the list to determine which device would be the CD to boot from. (The Pci or Scsi numbers will be different.) If you choose the wrong device the first time, you can just restart the VM and choose another until you get it right.


Step 12: Flag the new system as a server installation.
After the VM boots from the install disk again, run the Terminal from the Utilities menu.

I labeled my HD, "OS X Lion HD" when I initialized it, so I would enter the following to 'touch' the system,

# touch "/Volumes/OS X Lion HD/System/Library/CoreServices/ServerVersion.plist"

Now you can quit the Terminal, choose Startup Disk from the Utilities menu and restart from the hard disk.

Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Developer Preview


Mac OS X Lion, the next version of Apple’s Mac operating system, got a developer preview release today alongside the introduction of new MacBook Pros. The OS update was announced in October 2010 at Apple’s “Back to the Mac” event. Expectations of an release grew recently as sites reported seeing increased traffic from users with 10.7 on their machines, meaning Apple had ramped up internal testing.

Lion (version 10.7 of OS X) brings a number of features from the iPad to the Mac, among others. Apple breaks down some of the new features in its press release announcing the new developer preview:

Lion features Mission Control, an innovative new view of everything running on your Mac; Launchpad, a new home for all your Mac apps; full screen apps that use the entire Mac display; and new Multi-Touch™ gestures. Lion also includes the Mac App Store℠, the best place to discover, install and automatically update Mac apps.



Mission Control is like Exposé and Spaces on steroids, giving you tons of control over windows and workspace management. Launchpad basically brings iOS home screens to your Mac, allowing you to quickly organize apps. In addition to full-screen and multi-touch gestures, Lion also introduces support for Auto Save and Resume in Mac apps, which should essentially mirror the way apps can quit and jump back to exactly where they left off using iOS’ multitasking features. And Versions should also be great for productivity, as it allows you to compare your current document to past iterations side-by-side.

Another great new change detailed in Apple’s press release is a brand new version of Mail, which brings “an elegant, widescreen layout inspired by the iPad; Conversations, which automatically groups related messages into one easy to read timeline; more powerful search; and support for Microsoft Exchange 2010.” I never stray far from using Mail in OS X, but these changes sound like they’ll be huge improvements to a product that is admittedly showing its age.

The main new features in OS X Lion were all shown off when Apple first unveiled the new operating system, and you can see our more detailed look at each individual aspect of the new OS in Alex’s article about the 10.7 launch announcement. As users dig into the new developer preview, I’m sure we’ll see many more details emerge regarding Apple’s latest major OS update.

Betapa mengagumkan suara adzan itu, dan bagi umat Islam di seluruh dunia, adzan merupakan sebuah fakta yang telah mapan. Indonesia misalnya, sebagai sebuah negara terdiri dari ribuan pulau dan dengan penduduk muslim terbesar di dunia.

1 . Kalimat Penyeru Yang Mengandung "Kekuatan Supranatural"
Ketika azan berkumandang, kaum yang bukan sekedar muslim, tetapi juga beriman, bergegas meninggalkan seluruh aktivitas duniawi dan bersegera menuju masjid untuk menunaikan salat berjamaah. Simpul-simpul kesadaran psiko-religius dalam otak mereka mendadak bergetar hebat, terhubung secara simultan, dan dengan totalitas kesadaran seorang hamba (abdi) mereka bersimpuh, luruh dalam kesyahduan ibadah shalat berjamaah.

Ada yang mengusulkan untuk mengibarkan bendera pas waktu shalat itu tiba, ada yang usul untuk menyalakan api di atas bukit, meniup terompet, dan bahkan membunyikan lonceng. Tetapi semuanya dianggap kurang pas dan kurang cocok.

Adalah Abdullah bin Zaid yang bermimpi bertemu dengan seseorang yang memberitahunya untuk mengumandangkan adzan dengan menyerukan lafaz-lafaz adzan yang sudah kita ketahui sekarang. Mimpi itu disampaikan Abdullah bin Zaid kepada Rasulullah Saw. Umar bin Khathab yang sedang berada di rumah mendengar suara itu. Ia langsung keluar sambil menarik jubahnya dan berkata: ”Demi Tuhan Yang mengutusmu dengan Hak, ya Rasulullah, aku benar-benar melihat seperti yang ia lihat (di dalam mimpi). Lalu Rasulullah bersabda: ”Segala puji bagimu.”
yang kemudian Rasulullah menyetujuinya untuk menggunakan lafaz-lafaz adzan itu untuk menyerukan panggilan shalat.

3. Adzan Senantiasa Ada Saat Peristiwa2 Penting:
Adzan Digunakan islam untuk memanggil Umat untuk Melaksanakan shalat. Selain itu adzan juga dikumandangkan disaat-saat Penting. Ketika lahirnya seorang Bayi, ketika Peristiwa besar .

Peristiwa besar yang dimaksud adalah
- Fathu Makah : Pembebasan Mekkah merupakan peristiwa yang terjadi pada tahun 630 tepatnya pada tanggal 10 Ramadan 8 H, dimana Muhammad beserta 10.000 pasukan bergerak dari Madinah menuju Mekkah, dan kemudian menguasai Mekkah secara keseluruhan, sekaligus menghancurkan berhala yang ditempatkan di dalam dan sekitar Ka'bah. Lalu Bilal Mengumandangkan Adzan Diatas Ka'bah

- Perebutan kekuasaan Konstatinopel : Konstantinopel jatuh ke tangan pasukan Ottoman, mengakhiri Kekaisaran Romawi Timur. lalu beberapa perajurit ottoman masuk kedalam Ramapsan terbesar Mereka Sofia..lalu mengumandangkan adzan disana sebagai tanda kemenagan meraka.

4. Adzan Sudah Miliyaran kali Dikumandangkan:
Sejak pertama dikumandangkan sampai saat ini mungkin sudah sekitar 1500 tahunan lebih adzan dikumandangkan. Anggaplah setahun 356 hari . berarti 1500 tahun X 356 hari= 534000 dan kalikan kembali dengan jumlah umat islam yang terus bertambah tiap tahunnya. Kita anggap umat islam saat ini sekitar 2 miliyar orang dengan persentase 2 milyar umat dengan 2 juta muadzin saja. Hasilnya =

534.000 x 2.000.000 = 1.068.000.000.000 dikalikan 5 = 5.340.000.000.000

5. Adzan Ternyata Tidak Pernah Berhenti Berkumandang



Proses itu terus berlangsung dan bergerak ke arah barat kepulauan Indonesia. Perbedaan waktu antara timur dan barat pulau-pulau di Indonesia adalah satu jam. Oleh karena itu, satu jam setelah adzan selesai di Sulawesi, maka adzan segera bergema di Jakarta, disusul pula sumatra. Dan adzan belum berakhir di Indonesia, maka ia sudah dimulai di Malaysia. Burma adalah di baris berikutnya, dan dalam waktu beberapa jam dari Jakarta, maka adzan mencapai Dacca, ibukota Bangladesh. Dan begitu adzan berakhir di Bangladesh, maka ia ia telah dikumandangkan di barat India, dari Kalkuta ke Srinagar. Kemudian terus menuju Bombay dan seluruh kawasan India.

Srinagar dan Sialkot (sebuah kota di Pakistan utara) memiliki waktu adzan yang sama. Perbedaan waktu antara Sialkot, Kota, Karachi dan Gowadar (kota di Baluchistan, sebuah provinsi di Pakistan) adalah empat puluh menit, dan dalam waktu ini, (Dawn) adzan Fajar telah terdengar di Pakistan. Sebelum berakhir di sana, ia telah dimulai di Afghanistan dan Muscat. Perbedaan waktu antara Muscat dan Baghdad adalah satu jam. Adzan kembali terdengar selama satu jam di wilayah Hijaz al-Muqaddas (Makkah dan Madinah), Yaman, Uni Emirat Arab, Kuwait dan Irak.

Perbedaan waktu antara Bagdad dan Iskandariyah di Mesir adalah satu jam. Adzan terus bergema di Siria, Mesir, Somalia dan Sudan selama jam tersebut. Iskandariyah dan Istanbul terletak di bujur geografis yang sama. Perbedaan waktu antara timur dan barat Turki adalah satu setengah jam, dan pada saat ini seruan shalat dikumandangkan.

Iskandariyah dan Tripoli (ibukota Libya) terletak di lokasi waktu yang sama. Proses panggilan Adzan sehingga terus berlangsung melalui seluruh kawasan Afrika. Oleh karena itu, kumandang keesaan Allah dan kenabian Muhammad saw yang dimulai dari bagian timur pulau Indonesia itu tiba di pantai timur Samudera Atlantik setelah sembilan setengah jam.

Sebelum Adzan mencapai pantai Atlantik, kumandang adzan Zhuhur telah dimulai di kawasan timur Indonesia, dan sebelum mencapai Dacca, adzan Ashar telah dimulai. Dan begitu adzan mencapai Jakarta setelah kira-kira satu setengah jam kemudian, maka waktu Maghrib menyusul. Dan tidak lama setelah waktu Maghrib mencapai Sumatera, maka waktu adzan Isya telah dimulai di Sulawesi! Bila Muadzin di Indonesia mengumandangkan adzan Fajar, maka muadzin di Afrika mengumandangkan adzan untuk Isya.
